What Fits in a Toyota Tacoma Bed?

The real bed dimensions, payload and wheel-arch clearances for the Toyota Tacoma — four generations, six bed configurations — and exactly what overland gear you can load. Below is a to-scale 3D model of the bed, built from measured data.

The Numbers

Measured cargo-area dimensions for the 4th-gen (2024–) Tacoma 6ft bed. Every gear-fit call on this page is computed from these.

Dimensions are approximate and sourced from measured references — verify against your exact model year and trim before purchasing gear. Payload includes passengers and accessories; check your door-jamb sticker.

What Actually Fits

Payload isn't usually the limit on a mid-size truck — geometry is. Here's a realistic overland load against the 6ft bed's 655 kg (1,444 lb) payload budget.

Sample overland build

The real constraint is width, not weight. The Tacoma's flat floor is about 1130 mm (44.5 in) between the wheel arches, and the arches rise ~240 mm (9.4 in) off the floor — 270 mm on the 3rd gen, which is why older trucks feel tighter. Gear narrower than that stacks flat; anything wider has to sit above the arch line. Note the payload story too: a 2024 truck carries 655 kg where a 3rd-gen carries 476 kg — a 179 kg swing that decides whether water or a second battery makes the cut.

    Tacoma Bed FAQ

What are the Toyota Tacoma bed dimensions?

The 4th-gen (2024–) 6ft bed measures about 1867 × 1334 × 538 mm (73.5 × 52.5 × 21.2 in), with roughly 1130 mm (44.5 in) of flat floor between the wheel arches. The 5ft short bed is about 1532 mm (60.3 in) long. Verify against your exact trim before buying gear.

How much can a Toyota Tacoma carry in the bed?

About 655 kg (1,444 lb) on the 4th-gen 6ft — including passengers and accessories, not just bed cargo. Older 3rd-gen trucks are lower again at about 476 kg (1,049 lb). Check the door-jamb sticker.

Will a fridge and drawer system fit?

Yes — most 40–75 L fridges are 445–935 mm long, and drawer systems up to about 1130 mm wide fit on the flat floor between the arches. The limit is the arch height: ~240 mm on the 4th gen, 270 mm on the 3rd.

Does the Kitchen Cube fit a Toyota Tacoma?

Yes, with room to spare — the 12-inch (305 mm) packed cube sits on the flat floor with about 233 mm (9.2 in) left below the bed rail on the 4th gen. Join the waitlist for early access.
